Rolling Stock

.The twelve trains operating on the Venosta Valley railway feature GTW 2/6 diesel-electric articulated railcars built by Swiss company Stadler Rail. The low-floor unit is a perfect fit with the station platforms. This translates into a more pleasant user experience, also thanks to the wider doors. You simply get on to the spacious train without any steps to negotiate, which is a distinct advantage for the disabled. The facilities offered by this latest-generation train are complemented by a multi-purpose area suitable for luggage, bicycles and wheelchairs. The comfortable interior features a single, undivided compartment and large scenic windows, making journeys particularly relaxing.
Modern design and quiet operation make travelling from Merano to Malles a brand new experience. Despite the hot summer weather, on-board comfort remains at its highest thanks to a set of two independent air conditioning systems.

.The rolling stock consists of three elements: two passenger compartments and an independent, centrally-located power module. Each compartment is placed on a trailer, the rear section of which is connected to the power car where the traction equipment is located. Axle arrangement is 2' Bo 2'. This configuration reduces noise levels in the passenger compartments and the overall weight on the power car. This results in more friction, producing 80 kN of starting tractive power, with two power modules each fitted with a 380kW diesel engine, an asynchronous generator, an IGBT inverter and an asynchronous motor. During daily operations both engines are operational, allowing acceleration to reach 1,05 m/s² on steep sections of track.
